In the wake of the Paris attacks, we pray for those killed, for the injured still in hospital, and those targeted by ISIS in the Middle East. However, the understandable fear produced by terrorism should not curtail the resettlement of Syrian refugees in the United States.
Some Members of Congress have introduced legislation to stop the resettlement Syrian refugees. It is critical that your public officials hear from you now as decisions are being made that could drastically impact the lives of Syrian refugees and refugee resettlement in the United States. The U.S. has always been a haven for the world’s refugees and the Catholic Church plays a large role in that welcome. The U.S. has an 18-24 month investigation process that includes biometric checks, forensic testing, medical screenings and rigorous in-person interviews before resettling refugees. Welcoming refugees is the American way and an important part of our Catholic tradition.
